Saturday night we went to a punk rock show in Worcester, Massachusetts. Actually we didn’t go into the show although Prahlada used to listen to the Suicidal Tendencies and DRI a lot, but we stayed in front of the Palladium and talked to the fans and showed them the books as they were going in or came out to smoke cigarettes or cool down from the moshing.

On the other side of the sign they still had the bands that played the previous night: Darkest Hour and Veil of Maya. These names make an interesting combination, as maya is Sanskrit for illusion.

One fellow stood outside shirtless, somewhat stained in blood, waiting for his mom to come pick him up. Apparently he had been asked to leave. He sounded somewhat proud as he proclaimed that most of the blood on him was not his.

The majority of the people who came for the show were more or less familiar with the Bhagavad-gita and Krishna consciousness already, or at least had an interest in it. There are many famous bands in the hardcore scene that have written a ton of songs based on the Krishna philosophy, such as Shelter, 108 and Cro-mags.

Cro-mags played at the Palladium last night as well. Prahlada ran into the singer, John Joseph, who has written a book called Meat is for Pussies, promoting cruelty-free lifestyle and vegan/vegetarian eating. A fan of Cro-mags told us that whoever writes John Joseph, gets a free Bhagavad-gita mailed to them in return. That’s pretty cool.

I’ll leave you with a few lines from the intro to Meat is for Pussies. Bare in mind that John Joseph is a hardcore dude and his book targets an audience that doesn’t mind being…straightforward.

These people have all bought into the lies and propaganda put out there by the douche bags running the meat industry who are some of the most powerful lobbyists in the U.S. Do you remember that bullshit ad campaign they ran a while ago? “Beef it’s what’s for dinner.” Yeah, and cancer, arterial sclerosis, high blood pressure, impotence, as well as dozens of other meat-eating related diseases. That’s your karmic dessert.
