Struggle for existence

There are many big cities all over the surface of the globe, and wherever one looks he sees the struggle for existence going on twenty-four hours a day. people rush about in cars going seventy and eighty miles an hour, constantly coming and going, and this sets the scene of the great struggle for existence. One has to rise early in the morning and travel in that car at breakneck speed. There is always the danger of an accident, and one has to take great care. In his automobile, the living entity is full of anxieties, and his struggle is not at all auspicious. Apart from human beings, other species like cats and dogs are also struggling very hard day and night for existence. Thus the struggle for existence continues, and the conditioned soul changes from one position to another. (SB 5.14.1)

As long as we have these bodies this struggle must go on. If we only work for the body and the things relating to the body we simply will be fighting a battle that we are destined to lose against death.

On the other hand, if we spend whatever time we have reading Srila Prabhupada’s books and chanting Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare, then that will make us happy, fulfilled and ultimately in the end when these bodies do lose the battle to death everything will not be lost. Because all the transcendental activities we did will stick with us and liberate us from the repetition of birth and death, samsara, and we will return back home back to Krishna, that is the happy ending! Specifically in regard to this original edition when the editors at the BBT tried to change it Srila Prabhupada said:

“It is very serious situation. You write one letter that “Why you have made so many changes?” And whom to write? Who will care? All rascals are there. Write to Satsvarupa that “This is the position. They are doing anything and everything at their whim.” The next printing should be again to the original way….So write them immediately that “The rascal editors, they are doing havoc”… They cannot change anything”  (June 22, 1977, Vrindavan India), being your authorized download source, is so happy to provide these original editions to you for your transcendental benefit!

Who is Lord Siva?

Nowadays it is very fashionable to chant to and warship Lord Siva. That is good, but sometimes it becomes just a fashion or cool or something, and we want to gratify our senses or ego by being (or making a show of being) a devotee of Siva.

This is not pleasing to Lord Siva. Siva is a person similarly to how we are persons BUT he is not a living entity like you and me he is ‘Siva shakti’ – He is in another category far above the rest of the living entities like you and me. It is said that there are two positions that are practically impossible to understand one is the position of the guru and the other is the position of Siva.

Who is Guru?

Srila prabhupada

Srila Prabhupada clears up the confusion about who is a bona fide, fully empowered real guru in a lecture on the Srimad-Bhagavatam 5.6.8 in Vrndavana India on November 30, 1976

So just like ordinary cloud is made possible by evaporating water from the sea, similarly, Krsna has the sea of mercy, karunayamaya, karuna-sagara. Krsna’s another name is Karuna-sagara. So as the air evaporate or the heat evaporate from the sea, and the cloud is formed in the sky, similarly, one who has connection or the power to evaporate the mercy sea of Krsna, he can extinguish the samsara davanala. And that is guru. Guru is the cloud or he is the agent of drying water from the ocean of mercy of Krsna and turn it into a mercy cloud and pour water on the samsara davanala, and then it is extinguished. Samsara davanala-lidha-loka-tranaya karunya-ghanaghanatvam, praptasya kalyana.

Below is a transcription of the audio you are hearing in the audio player above.

“This transcendental vibration by chanting of Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare, is the sublime method for reviving our Krishna consciousness. As living spiritual soul, we are all originally Krishna conscious entities, but due to our association with matter from time immemorial, our consciousness is now polluted by material atmosphere. In this polluted concept of life we are all trying to exploit the resources of material nature, but actually we are becoming more and more entangled in our complexities. This illusion is called maya, or hard struggle for existence, for winning over the stringent laws of material nature. This illusory struggle against material nature can at once be stopped by revival of our Krishna consciousness.
